KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof emphasized the importance of maintaining environmental sustainability while utilizing advanced technologies in the palm oil industry.
During his welcoming speech at the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) International Palm Oil Congress and Exhibition 2023 (Pipoc 2023) launch on Wednesday (Nov 8), he stated that Malaysia must demonstrate commitment to sustainable energy without hindering industry development.
He stressed the need for the industry to improve productivity through innovative technologies while also prioritizing environmental sustainability in line with the Madani Economy Framework.
Fadillah highlighted Malaysia’s dedication to sustainable energy since the 1980s, particularly in pioneering the development of palm-based biodiesel technology, which has contributed to environmental sustainability and energy efficiency.

He acknowledged the cutting-edge technologies and innovations developed by MPOB and industry players to promote sustainable production practices and increase oil palm yields.
Fadillah mentioned Malaysia’s significant progress in breeding and biotechnology research, resulting in the successful development of clonal palm series and genome programs aimed at enhancing yields and reducing contamination risks.
“I am proud to say that Malaysia has achieved significant milestones by successfully sequencing the oil palm genome, leading to groundbreaking discoveries that enhance the efficiency of breeding practices,” added Fadillah, who is also Plantation and Commodities Minister.
