PENAMPANG: Datuk Ewon Benedick, the president of the United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (Upko), announced that the party will be hosting a celebration to mark its 30th anniversary on August 9. Additionally, Upko will also be holding its annual convention on August 10, with the Upko Kaamatan (Harvest) Festival celebration set for May 11 and 12.
Ewon mentioned that the upcoming programme will be organized by Beaufort Upko and will take place in Kuala Penyu. These details were shared by Ewon with reporters following the Upko Executive Committee meeting held on Sunday, March 24.
Regarding preparations for the 17th Sabah State Election, Ewon stated that Upko, as a component party in the Unity Government, consistently offers its perspectives and positions to ensure that any emerging issues are addressed openly and maturely.
Expressing confidence in the leadership of Upko and Pakatan Harapan (PH), Ewon emphasized the need for PH to have a reasonable presence at the state level. He also highlighted that Upko currently boasts over 160,000 registered members.
During the event, Ewon presented a party membership card to former Senator Adrian Lasimbang, who has rejoined Upko. Ewon praised Adrian’s involvement in environmental NGOs, stating that his re-entry into Upko will bring added value to the party. – Bernama
