PUTRAJAYA: Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar emphasized the importance for Muslims to use social media responsibly by sharing content that promotes goodwill and avoiding divisive content. He stated that it is inappropriate for Muslims to depict Islam as extreme or promote bigotry and fanatical bias on social media. According to him, these portrayals contradict the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad SAW, who advocated for respect, open-mindedness, and good morals even in the face of differing opinions. This applies to social media content related to current news, religious matters, and the law.
In his speech at the national-level 1445 Hijrah/2023 Maulidur Rasul celebration held at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC), Mohd Na’im emphasized that Muslims should strive to be peacemakers and advocate for love and unity within the ummah. He stressed that cultivating these traits is the responsibility of everyone in the country. He urged Muslims not to engage in divisive behavior or cause chaos, provocations, or spreading slander that disrupts communal harmony and bonds.
Mohd Na’im also warned against using religious and racial sentiments as weapons to gain support and self-interests, comparing such individuals to “api dalam sekam” or fire smouldering in the husk. He called upon the mufti and the State Mufti Departments to educate Muslims on how to address and counteract slander and discord, as these tend to lead to division within the community.
Mohd Na’im expressed his hopes that the unity government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will commit to implementing the agenda of ‘Developing Malaysia Madani’ which aims to shape the well-being of the community based on the core values of Madani. He mentioned that the prime minister also highlighted this agenda during his address at the 78th United Nations General Assembly in New York.
The national-level Maulidur Rasul celebration, held under the theme of ‘Perpaduan Teras Malaysia Madani’ (Unity the Pillar of Malaysia Madani), was graced by the presence of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah.
