KUALA LUMPUR: The Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) Hospital’s western medicine department has received approval from the Health Ministry to start operations, according to Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
“With the Chinese Medicine Department and Western Hospital now operating, we aim to help more people,” said the MCA president.
“MCA has successfully established two universities and a specialized hospital. We are determined to actively serve the community and provide benefits for the people,” he said after opening the Selangor MCA convention at Wisma MCA on Sunday (July 16).
The UTAR Hospital is a teaching and community hospital located at the UTAR Kampar Campus in Perak.
It offers medical care and services in Western medicine and Traditional and Complementary Medicine (TCM), including Chinese, Ayurvedic, and traditional Malay medicine.
The project consists of an initial phase with a hospital complex having 250 beds for Western medicine and 100 beds for TCM, with future plans to add 250 more beds.
The project includes facilities for outpatient and inpatient treatment, diagnostics and treatment, medical and non-medical support, research and education, as well as staff, student, and administrative centers.
The hospital’s Traditional and Complementary Medicine (TCM) center started operating in April last year. The center has received over 20,000 patient visits from Penang, Kedah, Selangor, Johor, and some east coast states.
