PETALING JAYA: Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR), which is set up by MCA, is prepared to work with the government to improve the medical and healthcare services in the country, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
The MCA president said as the country gave more emphasis to Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), VTAR Institute would also do its part to support the government in this area.
“We also hope that the government will continue to support the development of the Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT) to ensure its sustainable growth,” he said in a statement late Wednesday evening (Sept 18).
Dr Wee, who is also the Ayer Hitam MP, said this following a meeting together with the MCA delegation with Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan, Finance Ministry’s National Budget Office Director Datuk Shahrol Anuwar Sarman at the Second Finance Minister’s office on Sept 18.
The delegation met to submit MCA’s recommendations for Budget 2025.
Among other issues that were covered during the meeting were taxation policies, science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education, support for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), the education sector and public transportation.
“These proposals, researched and compiled by the Institute of Strategic Analysis and Policy Research (Insap), are part of MCA’s commitment to creating a more inclusive and prosperous Malaysia for everyone.
“I am grateful that the team, led by Amir Hamzah, was willing to listen to the needs of the people as they work diligently to prepare the Budget 2025 which will be tabled at Parliament in a month’s time,” said Dr Wee.
On Aug 6, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim wants Budget 2025, which will be presented on Oct 18 in the Dewan Rakyat, to focus on addressing and reducing the cost of living.
