The alumni association (PAUTM) of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia held a fundraising dinner on Saturday night to help support students in need. The event aimed to raise funds for the association’s endowment fund, which will be used to sponsor eligible students. The dinner was attended by almost 500 UTM alumni and was held at the grand banquet hall of the Kuala Lumpur UTM Hotel and Residences. MCA President Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong was also in attendance and announced that the eligible students would receive a scholarship worth RM30,000 per person for four years of study.
Dr. Wee Ka Siong shared his thoughts about the event on Facebook, saying that the dinner was very meaningful as it provided an opportunity to reconnect with old friends. The UTM vice-chancellor Datuk Dr Ahmad Fauzi Ismail officiated the event and also presented the PAUTM Honorary Figure Award 2023 to some of the prominent attendees at the dinner.
Some of the recipients of the award included Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Kamarulzaman Mat Salleh, Health Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr Zaini Ujang, Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, and Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MCMC) chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki. The event was a great success and helped in raising important funds for the endowment fund and for the benefit of deserving students.
