A van driver, 38, was taken into police custody after he refused to give way to an ambulance at Pasir Gudang Highway. Seri Alam OCPD Supt Mohd Sohaimi Ishak revealed that the police were alerted to the incident by a video posted on Facebook at 3.30pm on Saturday. The video, captured at 10.17am, depicted a white van obstructing an ambulance on the right lane at KM14 Pasir Gudang Highway. Despite the ambulance’s siren and signal lights being activated, the van driver disregarded the emergency vehicle, compelling the ambulance to maneuver around the van using the left lane,” he stated in a press release.
The van driver was apprehended for investigation under Rule 9 of the Road Traffic Rules 166/59 and Section 56(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for operating a goods vehicle without a GDL licence. Further background checks unveiled that the driver was the subject of seven unsettled traffic summonses and had no previous criminal record,” he said. A 47-second video uploaded on the JB Tracer II group depicted a white van obstructing an ambulance in the right lane.
