KUANTAN: An individual who works as a vegetable farmer experienced a devastating loss of RM108,344 after being involved in a non-existent investment scheme.
Pahang police chief, Comm Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman stated that the 34-year-old victim claimed to have engaged in the investment through a WeChat application on August 30th.
“The investment required the victim to purchase ‘points’ in order to gain profits. This aspect enticed the victim and led to his continued participation in the scheme due to the promise of substantial returns,” he mentioned in a statement released on September 3rd.
According to the victim, he initiated seven online fund transfers to four different accounts provided by the suspect with the expectation of receiving profits. However, after failing to receive any returns, he realized that he had fallen victim to deception. Consequently, he went to the Cameron Highlands police headquarters the following day to file a report,” Comm Yahya added.
In light of this incident, it is advised that the public exercise caution and avoid being easily influenced by investment schemes that guarantee quick and significant profits. Furthermore, individuals should verify the authenticity of account numbers received through social media to prevent falling prey to scams, as stated by Bernama.
