KOTA KINABALU: A 38-year-old military veteran has claimed trial to 12 charges of using forged documents to make claims in a span of a year amounting to RM335,933, at the Labuan Corruption Special Sessions Court on Friday (June 14).
Fairuzul Fazillah Musa, who was unrepresented, pleaded not guilty to the charges under Section 471 of the Penal Code (using as genuine a forged document) in front of Judge Jason Juga.
He was accused of using falsified documents to submit claims for local training allowances while serving with the Royal Malaysian Navy Volunteer Reserve team in Labuan from January 2015 to January 2016.
The court ordered the accused to pay RM10,000 bail with one local surety and to surrender his passport to the court.
He is also directed to report to the nearest Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) office once every two months until the case is settled. July 26 has been set as the case remention date.
In a separate case in the same court, Judge Jason sentenced a senior Veterinary Services Department officer to a RM21,000 fine for using false documents to make travel claims between August 2018 and September 2020.
Marysia James Abie, 40, the Labuan department director, was charged with 13 main offences under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009 and seven optional charges under Section 471/465 of the Penal Code.
She was accused of submitting to the department falsified documents for 13 outstation travel allowance claims and domestic travel allowance claims as the department director.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the 13 main charges but pleaded guilty to the seven optional charges.
Judge Jason rolled out the sentence, saying the accused would face three months in jail if she failed to pay the fines.
