After a young woman was discovered dead in her vehicle on Tuesday at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital parking lot, police say she had been sleeping in the backseat with the windows closed, causing her death.
Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Yahaya Hassan explained that the woman had been looking after her sick father, a patient at the hospital.
“She had come to the car to rest at the backseat without winding down the windows,” he said in a statement on Wednesday (Feb 21).
The case has been classified as sudden death while awaiting a postmortem report.
“Police had received a call from the hospital’s security guard on Tuesday evening stating that he believed a woman was unconscious, and had probably died inside the car.
“With the help of firefighters, the car doors were opened, and checks by medical officers confirmed that the woman died,” he added.
Perak Fire and Rescue Department’s operations centre Bakri Manaf said a distress call was made at 6.07pm on Tuesday, reporting that a woman in her 20s was found dead inside a car parked at the hospital.
He said the car was parked in front of the hospital’s specialist clinics car park.
ACP Yahaya advised the public not to have the habit of sleeping in the car, because if the car engine was switched off, the air conditioning system would not function, and lack of oxygen can cause sudden death.
