The Penang government has stated that a viral video circulating on social media, claiming that there are cracks on the Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah Bridge, is actually an old clip taken overseas. Zairil Khir Johari, the State Infrastructure, Transport and Digital Development Committee chairman, confirmed that he had inspected the bridge with Jambatan Kedua Sdn Bhd (JKSB) and found no signs of any incident. He further clarified in an official Facebook post on Sunday that the incident in the video had occurred overseas in 2014.

Zairil urged the public to refrain from spreading the video and disseminating fake news to prevent unnecessary panic. The video, which had gone viral on WhatsApp, showed a 27-second clip where an individual claimed that the bridge was cracked and advised people to be cautious.
