PUTRAJAYA: Fadhlina Sidek, the Wanita PKR chief and Education Minister, emphasized the importance of a unified coalition government that is not solely reliant on the strength of PKR.
She stressed that it is crucial for the unity government to be a strong coalition, requiring a high level of consensus to address various issues. Fadhlina also highlighted the need for understanding, patience, and commitment from all delegates regarding this matter.
During her policy speech, Fadhlina expressed disappointment that the target of fielding 30% women candidates in elections was far from being achieved. She pointed out that only 12% women candidates were fielded in state elections this year.
Fadhlina attributed the lack of women representatives in Parliament and state assemblies to various factors, including the political ecosystem and the political parties themselves. She emphasized the importance of women representatives in shaping better policies to protect women, children, and senior citizens, as well as gender-based policies.
Fadhlina emphasized the party’s commitment to ensuring that Wanita PKR is represented in all election seats in order to accurately reflect the voices of women, who make up half of the country’s population.
The Wanita PKR Congress, which was attended by 457 delegates, also marked the party’s 25th anniversary of the reformasi movement and was the first party congress held after PKR chief Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s appointment as the 10th prime minister on Nov 24, 2022.
