The voting process for representatives of the Youth Parliament will undergo a major revamp next year, according to Tan Sri Johari Abdul. The Ministry of Youth and Sports has agreed to hand over the project to Parliament for management. Johari stated that the Youth Parliament will serve as an incubator program to develop a group of skilled young leaders. He emphasized the desire to see capable, skilled, and educated young individuals with the vision to contribute to the Youth Parliament, and hopes this initiative will serve as a stepping stone for future Members of Parliament (MPs).
Tan Sri Johari Abdul made these comments during the launch of the National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations with Senators and MPs in Kuala Lumpur on September 14. In preparation for the upcoming Malaysia Day festivities, Johari urged all parties to work together in order to increase the country’s competitiveness. He called for the setting aside of individualism and the joint instillation of the national spirit. Johari believes that racial unity and national integration should be pursued in Malaysia based on the five principles of Rukun Negara and the ideals it encompasses.
Johari stated, “The spirit of nationhood born from unity will help build a powerful nation-state and boost Malaysia’s competitiveness in the global arena.” The national-level Malaysia Day celebration is scheduled to take place at the Unity Stadium in Kuching, Sarawak on September 16.
