PETALING JAYA: Razeef Rakimin, PKR deputy information chief, questions whether PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang’s evening meeting with Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad on Saturday (Sept 2) suggests that he was too unwell to cooperate with the police’s ongoing sedition probes. This comes after Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain announced that the police postponed an appointment to record a statement by Abdul Hadi due to his alleged illness. Abdul Hadi is currently being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act and Section 233 of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Act, as reported on Aug 28. Razeef raises doubts about Abdul Hadi’s claim of illness by pointing out his meeting with Dr Mahathir on the same day.
Razeef contends that Abdul Hadi’s speech undermines the decisions made by the Malay Rulers and goes against the Royal Institutions’ decisions. Abdul Hadi is being probed for allegedly disputing the Pardons Board’s granting of pardons, which he deems unIslamic. He argues that only the victim’s family member should have the right to grant pardon, not the Pardons Board. Razeef urges the police not to be deceived by Abdul Hadi’s attempts to avoid investigation through his tactics.
Furthermore, a post on X (formerly Twitter) features a picture of a top-level PAS delegation at Dr Mahathir’s residence. The photo includes Abdul Hadi together with Perlis Mentri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli, Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, Terengganu Mentri Besar Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, Kelantan Mentri Besar Datuk Nassaruddin Daud, and secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan, among others. Leaders aligned with Dr Mahathir such as Datuk Khairuddin Abu Hassan and Datuk Seri Marzuki Yahya were also present.
According to Khairuddin, the meeting lasted for an hour-and-a-half and focused on discussions about developing the economies of PAS-held states.
