Following the Sungai Perai pipe leak incident that affected 120,000 users on January 23, the Penang Water Supply Corporation announced on Thursday (Feb 1) that the water supply has been fully restored.
K. Pathmanathan, the chief executive officer, stated that the Sungai Perai emergency response initiative’s plan B has been completed, allowing for the early restoration of the water supply.
Two new 600mm pipes were installed and connected along the Ampang Jajar Bridge, crossing Sungai Prai, and are now operating as planned. As of 3pm today, all 120,000 users have received their water supply, and the water supply corporation is pumping water from the Sungai Dua Water Treatment Plant to Penang at an optimum level,” Pathmanathan said in a statement on Thursday.
The original deadline for restoring the full water supply was 3:30pm on Friday (Feb 2), but the work was completed 24 hours ahead of schedule.
Pathmanathan expressed gratitude to all affected consumers for their understanding, patience, and cooperation during the crisis response scenario.
He advised users who have not yet received their water supply to check with their building management company for internal issues or to call the Penang Water Supply Corporation 24-Hour Call Centre at 04-255 8255 to file a complaint.
On January 23, a leak was discovered in a section of the 1,350 mm pipeline at the riverbed of Sungai Perai, leading to water supply disruption for around 120,000 consumers in the state. – Bernama
