CHUKAI: It has been a week since the tragic incident of the Jeram Air Putih water surge, and the search for the final victim, Putri Nor Fatin Karim, 14, continues on Saturday (July 8). The focus of the search area is now solely on Sector A.
Senior Superintendent II Azman Alias, the Terengganu Fire and Rescue Department Zone 2 chief, shared that Sectors B and C would also be covered, but on a smaller scale. “We will concentrate on the locations where the victims were previously found and expand the search to nearby areas,” said Azman. After assessing the area, several new sand bars were discovered along the rapids, which will be explored with the help of four K9 tracker dogs.
On Saturday, a team of 250 members will be involved in the operation, conducting a thorough search on areas that have already been covered. “This includes carefully examining the newly formed debris piles resulting from weather changes and intermittent rainfall. We hold onto hope that the victim will be found today,” Azman added.
The remains of the other nine victims from the Juwater surge tragedy that occurred last Saturday (July 1) have already been laid to rest. Eight have been buried at Felda Lepar Hilir 3, Kuantan, Pahang on Tuesday (July 4) and Wednesday (July 5), while another was laid to rest in Batu Pahat, Johor at 7am on Saturday. – Bernama
