KUALA TERENGGANU: In a significant development, search and rescue (SAR) personnel discovered a sling bag that is believed to belong to Karim Abdullah, one of the victims in the Jeram Air Putih water surge incident. The bag, which contains money and important documents, was found by firemen on a sand bank 2km away from the incident site. Kemaman police chief Supt Hanyan Ramlan revealed that the black bag contained a black wallet with MyKad, MyKid cards, and bank cards. Additionally, it held RM1,279 in cash, a marriage certificate card, a watch, a mobile phone, a necklace, and a school name tag with “FATIN” written on it. Hanyan assured that the items would be returned to the victim’s family soon.
This discovery comes after reports on July 2 stated that 10 individuals had gone missing after being swept away during a picnic at Jeram Air Putih the previous evening. The missing individuals include Karim, his wife Azizah Eiyi, and their children Muhammad Zulqarnain Haikal, Putri Nurerina Natasya, Muhammad Haziq Ziqree, Putri Aryana Umaira, Putri Alleya Maisarah, Putri Nor Fatin, and Putri Balqis Izzati Abdul Rahman. Tragically, Muhammad Fikri Saliman, Putri Balqis Izzati’s fiancé from Batu Pahat, Johor, also lost his life in this incident.
Although the belongings of most victims have now been found, the search for Putri Nor Fatin’s body is still ongoing. Last week, the burial of the family of eight took place at the Felda Lepar Hilir 3 Muslim cemetery in Pahang, while Muhammad Fikri was laid to rest at the Muslim cemetery of Kampung Parit Kuda in Batu Pahat, Johor on Saturday, July 8.
