UMS has instructed its contractors to closely monitor all facilities after discovering that a water tank at one of its on-campus student residences in Kota Kinabalu was infested with maggots. A video of the contaminated water tank filled with maggots went viral on Friday (Nov 10). Students had also reported a foul smell in the water for several days.

The corporate communications center of UMS released a statement confirming the incident. “The water source for the affected tank is a well. However, the mains water source from the Sabah Water Department, which students use daily, is not compromised.” UMS said the maintenance contractor was ordered to flush and clean the affected tank.

UMS emphasized that the main water source used by students on a daily basis was not affected by the contaminated tank. The university has assured the public that it has taken immediate action to address the issue and prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.

Students and faculty at UMS have expressed concern and disappointment over the incident, with some calling for further investigations and preventive measures to be put in place. The contaminated water tank incident has also raised questions about the overall maintenance and sanitation of facilities at the university.

The water tank infested with maggots at UMS has caused alarm among the students and staff. The university has been urged to take stricter measures in monitoring and maintaining its facilities to ensure the health and safety of everyone on campus.

UMS has come under scrutiny following the discovery of the maggots infestation in the water tank, and the university is expected to implement more rigorous monitoring and maintenance protocols to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
