A pristine waterfall campsite in Negri Sembilan that was once a popular destination has now become a source of frustration due to the amount of trash left behind by visitors, as reported by Harian Metro. The area surrounding the Kampung Sungai Mahang waterfall in Nilai is now littered with bottles, food containers, and even used diapers, causing anger among locals and other visitors.
Mohd Adzri Abdullah, a first-time visitor to the waterfall, expressed his concern for his health after witnessing the state of the area. He expected a refreshing and peaceful environment but instead encountered the overpowering odor of rotting garbage.
“There were plenty of flies and rats, and I was worried about contracting diseases like rat urine disease (leptospirosis),” he said.
Local resident Muhammad Jailani Ahmad Zawawi attributed the increasing amount of garbage to the Covid-19 movement control order (MCO) period. He mentioned that many residents and families from Nilai frequented this waterfall during the MCO as an alternative recreational spot.
“Unfortunately, most of them irresponsibly leave behind their trash after visiting,” he added.
Another visitor, Muhammad Maula Mohd Kamal Bahrin, expressed his disgust at the state of the waterfall, particularly the sight of dogs digging for food among the piles of garbage.
The daily also reported on Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza Tarudin’s warning to netizens regarding scammers impersonating her and other celebrities. Scammers have been using old photos and videos of her performances to create fake social media accounts.
“These accounts post old videos of me or other celebrities performing on stage to pretend that it’s live in order to convince people that it’s an official account,” Siti Nurhaliza explained.
“They will then pretend to offer cash prizes in the comments section, which require users to fill in their personal information like bank details. This information is then immediately used to steal money from the bank account,” she added.
Siti Nurhaliza highlighted that some scammers even photoshopped old pictures of her and other celebrities onto posted advertisements promoting sketchy products, tarnishing the reputations of those involved.
She expressed her concern about the increasing prevalence of such scams in recent years.
