PUTRAJAYA: DAP is emphasizing its unwavering loyalty and commitment to its principles and friends, reassuring Umno leaders, members, and the Malay community that they have no reason to be concerned about DAP’s presence in the unity government, according to the party’s secretary-general Anthony Loke.
Loke stated that DAP’s main objective is to ensure the well-being of Malaysia’s multicultural society by continuing to practice moderate politics through the social democracy ideology. He also highlighted that the current political reality guarantees a strong position for the Malays, as they constitute approximately 65% of the total electorate, thus further allaying any fears regarding DAP.
He stressed that DAP is a principled party that does not engage in backstabbing or arbitrary shifts in narrative. The party upholds social democracy as one of its core principles and aims for harmonious coexistence among all Malaysians. Loke reiterated DAP’s stance that Malays are not the enemies of the party, and DAP is not the enemy of Malays.
Moreover, Loke addressed the criticism faced by DAP regarding its “Malaysian Malaysia” concept, clarifying that it does not seek to exclude Malays. He emphasized that Malaysia is for all Malaysians and debunked the misconception that DAP intends to marginalize the Malays.
During the DAP national congress, leaders from other parties, including Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, were also present, marking a historic occasion for the party. Loke took the opportunity to criticize former prime minister and ex-Umno president Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad for his forgetfulness. He highlighted that DAP has conducted its congress in the Malay language and has a party song in Malay, and praised the fluency of DAP leaders in the language.
Loke concluded by assuring the Umno members that DAP is not their enemy and urged them to see the true face of DAP, emphasizing the party’s commitment to inclusivity and harmony.
