Tragedy struck in Kluang when a 59-year-old man lost his life in a horrifying incident while working on an underground water pipe in Renggam.

The Kluang deputy OCPD Deputy Supt Nik Mohd Azmi Husin revealed that the police were alerted to the incident at KM41.5 Jalan Kluang-TeckWah Heng at 3.32pm on Saturday (March 9).

Rostam Amiruddin Hassan, the victim, was welding metal pipes with two others inside a trench that was 1.8 meters deep when tragedy struck.

Suddenly, the soil around them collapsed, burying Rostam alive and trapping him beneath some pipes. Despite efforts to rescue him, he was declared dead at the scene.

Fortunately, the two other workers were able to escape unscathed from the collapsed trench.

DSP Nik Mohd Azmi emphasized that there was no evidence of foul play or sabotage in the incident, which is now being treated as a case of sudden death.

The victim’s body was transported to Kluang Hospital for a post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death and gather additional information for the investigation.
