KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Aiman Athirah Sabu stated that the welfare of senior citizens is the responsibility of not just the government, but all parties involved. The involvement of the private sector and non-governmental organizations is crucial in ensuring that senior citizens can lead better lives, especially in these challenging times. The Deputy Women, Family and Community Development Minister emphasized that senior citizens should be entitled to enjoy their basic rights equally, regardless of their background. They should receive support in terms of healthcare, welfare, and socio-economic assistance to cope with old age. She expressed these remarks on Saturday (Oct 21) at the launch of the Kuala Lumpur-level Senior Citizens Carnival. The event is organized in conjunction with International Senior Citizens Day and National Senior Citizens Day, which are celebrated annually on October 1.

The theme of this year’s carnival is “Upholding the Rights of the Elderly: Across Generations.” Aiman Athirah Sabu further highlighted the importance of the younger generations in building a caring and harmonious society. She mentioned that it is crucial for the younger generations to show respect and care for the elderly, aligning with the Malaysia Madani concept. By doing so, it will help create a society that is supportive and inclusive of senior citizens.

It is evident that both the government and society at large have a role to play in ensuring the well-being of senior citizens. Aiman Athirah Sabu emphasized the need for the private sector and non-governmental organizations to contribute towards this cause. Their involvement is essential in providing the necessary support to senior citizens, enabling them to lead fulfilling lives.

Senior citizens should be given equal opportunities and access to healthcare, welfare, and socio-economic resources. These aspects are integral in helping them navigate the challenges that come with old age. By recognizing and fulfilling their rights, we can improve the quality of life for senior citizens and ensure their well-being.

The Senior Citizens Carnival serves as a platform to raise awareness and advocate for the rights of the elderly. The theme of this year’s event underscores the significance of intergenerational solidarity and upholding the rights of senior citizens across different age groups. Through events like the carnival, we can bring attention to the issues faced by senior citizens and encourage society to take action towards their well-being.

Furthermore, creating a caring society and harmonious nation requires the active involvement of the younger generations. They play a vital role in nurturing respect, empathy, and support for the elderly. Embracing the Malaysia Madani concept, which promotes inclusivity and harmony, will contribute to a society that values and cares for senior citizens.

In conclusion, the well-being of senior citizens is a collective responsibility. The government, private sector, non-governmental organizations, and society as a whole must work together to ensure the rights and welfare of elderly individuals. By providing support in healthcare, welfare, and socio-economic aspects, we can enable senior citizens to lead dignified and meaningful lives. Through initiatives like the Senior Citizens Carnival, we can celebrate the contributions of senior citizens and promote intergenerational solidarity.
