Construction of the West Ipoh Span Expressway (WISE), a 60km route connecting Gopeng and Kuala Kangsar, is nearing completion and expected to be finalized by December, according to Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias. The chairman of the Malaysian Highway Authority (MHA) stated that negotiations with the concession holder are in the final stages, which include discussions on the estimated total construction costs. Jalaluddin expressed hope for smooth negotiations and on-time construction.
The Perak state government has stressed the need to expedite the construction of WISE in order to address frequent fatal accidents and traffic congestion at the Menora Tunnel. WISE is intended to provide an alternative route for motorists.
On a different note, Jalaluddin revealed that RM5.2 billion has been allocated for the construction of the entire West Coast Expressway. This expressway spans 233km from Rawang to Changkat Jering, with the remaining section being the 35.5km Beruas to Changkat Jering segment, which is scheduled to start operating in January of next year. He emphasized that the main goal of the West Coast Expressway is to alleviate traffic congestion.
Jalaluddin also mentioned that the MHA is currently studying the necessity of expanding the West Coast Expressway to other areas where it may be needed, although no specific locations were mentioned.
