The story of a well-off beggar who owns a luxury SUV has been circulating on social media recently.
The Welfare Department in Pahang came across a beggar with a visible disability at the Sri Jaya night market in Maran, Pahang, holding up a sign asking for charity from passersby, as reported by Harian Metro.
When Welfare Department officers approached the man, who was dressed in a white jubah and kopiah, he initially refused to speak when one officer inquired about his reasons for begging.
It was noticed that the man seemed to have difficulty hearing and speaking when asked for his personal identification to document his activities.
Though the man insisted that he could hear and speak normally, he did have physical disabilities. He then led the officers to his car to retrieve his identification details – which turned out to be a Proton X70, with a starting price of around RM100,000.
Upon further questioning, it was revealed that he manages to collect up to RM500 daily by begging for four to six hours at the night market.
It was also disclosed that he resides in Balok, Kuantan, and receives a monthly allowance of RM450 due to his disability.
The officers proceeded to caution him about his actions.
