TANGKAK: Grassroots members should work hard to understand the people’s concerns in order to win their support, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
The MCA president called on the party’s Ledang division to put in more effort to approach every voter.
“In the last state election, we lost the Tangkak state seat by 372 votes,” he said in a Facebook post after attending the division’s annual general meeting on Sunday (June 30).
Dr Wee said the turnout for the annual general meeting was quite encouraging with great support from the grassroots.
“I hope all party members from the Ledang MCA division will work hard to approach every voter, understand their concerns and win their support,” he added.
There are three state seats in the Ledang parliamentary constituency – Gambir, Tangkak and Serom.
DAP’s Ee Chin Li garnered 8,105 votes against MCA’s Ong Chee Siang who received 7,733 votes in a five-cornered fight for the Tangkak seat in the 15th Johor election held in March 2022.
Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia’s Dr Chong Fat Full garnered 3,092 votes, Pejuang’s Muhammad Airel Zabridin received 789 votes and Independent Zainal Bahrom A Kadir collected 121 votes.
