Smallest SUV from Honda Arrives in Malaysia, Offers Four Locally Assembled Variants
KUALA LUMPUR – Finally, Honda’s smallest sports utility vehicle (SUV) has arrived in Malaysia, launching with four locally assembled variants. The WR-V (Winsome Runabout Vehicle) is available in the S, E, V, and top-of-the-line RS. Prices start at RM89,900 for the base S variant and go up to RM107,900 for the RS variant.
A 1.5-litre DOHC i-VTEC petrol engine powers the SUV, delivering 121hp and 145Nm of torque. Paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT), similar to the City, City Hatchback, and HR-V models, the WR-V offers a smooth driving experience.
Honda Malaysia takes pride in being the first Japanese mass-market manufacturer to introduce a new model in the non-national small SUV segment. The arrival of the all-new WR-V is expected to strengthen Honda Malaysia’s presence in this segment.
Honda Malaysia’s managing director and chief executive officer, Hironobu Yoshimura, expressed excitement about the WR-V’s launch. He stated, “Honda’s research and development team incorporated the best features of an SUV into a smaller design to enable the joy of owning a practical and small SUV for everyday urban commutes. We believe this small SUV has huge potential in the market and will appeal to young professionals and families seeking a small SUV with good value.”
Noteworthy features of the WR-V include power retractable door mirrors, smart entry with push start button, remote engine start, and walk-away auto lock, available in the E, V, and RS variants. Additionally, the top three variants are equipped with Honda Sensing safety features.
The WR-V is offered in five colour options, including the brand-new Stellar Diamond Pearl, a first for a Honda model. Platinum White Pearl, Ignite Red Metallic, Meteoroid Gray Metallic, and Crystal Black Pearl are also available.
Since opening the order books a month ago, Honda Malaysia has already received 2,500 bookings for the WR-V, with the RS being the most popular variant at 43%, followed by the V at 38%, the E at 12%, and the S at 7%. Moving forward, the company aims to have the RS variant make up 60% of future bookings.
With a current waiting period of approximately two months, Honda Malaysia has set a monthly sales target of 1,300 units for the WR-V.
