KUALA LUMPUR: General Tan Sri Mohammad Ab Rahman has been appointed as the new Armed Forces chief of Malaysia.
Gen Mohammad, who was recently promoted to Army chief in March, will now lead the Armed Forces as its 22nd chief.
The official announcement was made at Wisma Pertahanan after a ceremony where Gen Mohammad took over the duties from outgoing Armed Forces chief General Tan Sri Affendi Buang on September 6.
During the same event, Gen Mohammad handed over the post of Army Chief to Datuk Muhammad Hafizuddeain Jantan, a native of Segamat and the former Army deputy chief.
Datuk Muhammad Hafizuddeain, who began his career as a cadet officer in 1986 after graduating from the Maktab Tentera Diraja, was also promoted to general as the new Army chief.
“Although there are changes in leadership, I hope that all members of the Armed Forces will continue to demonstrate steadfastness, high professionalism, and loyalty,” said Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohammad Hassan in his speech.
The minister also expressed gratitude to Gen Affendi, stating that his service has been exemplary and that the country and people of Malaysia owe him a great debt.
“To Gen Tan Sri Affendi Buang, I extend my utmost appreciation for your noble sacrifice to our beloved country. Forty-three years of service is extraordinary, and words or gestures alone cannot adequately repay your long and remarkable dedication,” he added.
