The police have asked a witness to provide a statement regarding the alleged harassment of two media practitioners by a minister’s bodyguards in Johor Bahru. Johor police chief Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat stated that the internal investigation has been carried out and the witness statement has been recorded. He also mentioned that if anyone wants to lodge a police report, they can do so and the police will continue to investigate if necessary.
Last Tuesday, media outlets reported that two women journalists were allegedly harassed by a minister’s bodyguards while covering a campaign event in Taman Anggerik and Taman Dahlia. Kamarul Zaman provided an update on the incident during an inspection of a counting centre at Sultan Ibrahim Diamond Jubilee Hall.
In addition to this, Kamarul Zaman stated that 140 police reports regarding minor election offences were submitted between August 26 and midnight on Friday. He further mentioned that voting proceeded smoothly at all polling centres for both the Pulai parliamentary and Simpang Jeram state by-elections. The information was reported by Bernama.
