KUALA LUMPUR: A woman on trial for land fraud has been arrested for allegedly committing a similar offence.
Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) director Comm Datuk Seri Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf said the suspect, in her 40s, was previously charged in connection with four land fraud cases and the trial is ongoing.
“In the latest case, the suspect was detained in Gombak on Monday (Aug 12) for allegedly deceiving a 59-year-old retiree over a land purchase.
“The victim suffered RM60,400 in losses,” he told a press conference at CCID headquarters here on Tuesday (Aug 13).
Police have received 15 reports against the same suspect since 2015 involving more than RM500,000 in losses, he added.
“The suspect would sign the sales and purchase agreement with a land owner to supposedly buy the land.
“However, she would also advertise the land, divided into various lots, for sale to others.
“She would show (her targets) a purchase document or claim she has power of attorney over the land,” he said, adding that four bank accounts have been identified as receiving payments from victims.
“Three of the accounts are registered to individuals, two of them to the suspect, and the fourth under a company,” he added.
