According to Perak Fire and Rescue Department director Sayani Saidon, the woman who was swept away due to a water surge phenomenon in Kampung Poh has been found safe. However, three children aged from two and seven are still missing.
Saidon stated, “It has stopped raining. The water is still murky but is receding. Search and rescue operations are still ongoing along the river.”
The incident occurred when a woman and three children were swept away by the water surge at about 4pm on Wednesday. Seven people, including three women and four children, were picnicking near the area when the surge struck.
Tragically, the body of a woman was found by villagers, about 1km from the picnic spot. Another woman and a 12-year-old child were unharmed.
Saidon also mentioned that a K9 unit has been enlisted for the search, adding, “Currently, we have eight firemen from the Bidor station, six from the Teluk Intan Water Rescue Unit and three officers in the operation, as well as 22 policemen and 15 villagers.”
