KOTA KINABALU: A worker involved in the recent ammonia gas leak at an ice manufacturing factory in Sandakan has tragically passed away as a result of the incident. Sandakan OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Fuad Abd Malek has revealed that the event occurred as a group of seven individuals were performing maintenance works on one of the machines on Friday (Nov 10) at approximately 10am.
During these repairs, a pipe burst and released a significant amount of ammonia gas, as stated by ACP Fuad. The individual who was directly in front of the burst pipe suffered the most severe injuries. ACP Fuad mentioned that the worker lost consciousness and was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Duchess of Kent Hospital.
All 18 individuals who were working in the vicinity at the time of the incident were promptly taken to the hospital for medical treatment. ACP Fuad has also shared that a thorough investigation into the cause of the incident is currently underway.
