KUALA LUMPUR: The question whether the government intends to formulate specific legislation to address the issue of workplace discrimination will be discussed in the Dewan Rakyat on Monday (Oct 16).
William Leong Jee Keen (PH-Selayang) will raise this matter during the question and answer session to the Minister of Human Resources, as stated in the Order Paper on Parliament’s official website.
Datuk Muslimin Yahaya (PN-Sungai Besar) will also inquire the Minister of Higher Education about the number of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) graduates from 2018 to 2023 and how many of them have obtained jobs.
Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias (BN-Jelebu), on the other hand, will question the Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry about the expected amount of foreign investment in 2024 and how the ministry aims to balance incoming investment in all states, not just in the Klang Valley.
Today’s Parliament sitting will also focus on debating the 2024 Budget presented by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim last Friday.
According to the Dewan Rakyat calendar on the official Parliament website, the Supply Bill 2024 will undergo an eight-day committee-level debate before the ministers engage in a four-day answer session, starting from Oct 30.
During the budget tabling, Anwar emphasized the theme ‘Economic Reform, Empowering the People’ by allocating RM393.8 billion or 19.9 percent of the gross domestic product (GDP), with significant portions going to the Finance, Education, and Health ministries.
Out of the total allocation, RM303.8 billion and RM90 billion will be dedicated to operating and development expenditures respectively, while an additional RM2 billion will be set aside for contingency spending.
The Dewan Rakyat sessions will span 32 days until Nov 30. – Bernama
