KOTA KINABALU: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor announced that Yayasan Sabah (YS) Group is increasing its allocation to RM67.4 million in 2024, up from RM53.8 million in the previous year. This increase aims to provide more opportunities for Sabah youths to pursue tertiary education, whether overseas or within the country.
Hajiji emphasized that the state government has always prioritized education development, especially for the younger generation from the B40 group. He highlighted the various initiatives that have been implemented to support students in higher learning institutions.
During a breaking-of-fast ceremony with Sabah students studying in Peninsular Malaysia, held in Penang, Hajiji expressed his commitment to the education sector and ensuring that students have the necessary support to succeed.
The event, attended by 1,400 undergraduates, aimed to celebrate the achievements of Sabahan students studying away from their home state.
Hajiji mentioned that the YS Group has been providing assistance for higher education since 1967. Over the years, scholarships, grants, and loans have been offered to students pursuing various disciplines both in Malaysia and abroad.
He highlighted that a total of RM952.2 million has been disbursed to 124,141 Sabahan students, demonstrating the government’s commitment to supporting education in the state.
Addressing the undergraduates, Hajiji emphasized the important role they play in contributing to the progress and development of Sabah and the nation as a whole upon completion of their studies.
