JOHOR BARU: A Yemeni national was arrested after allegedly murdering another Yemeni citizen following a confrontation at a restaurant in Jalan Abdullah Tahir, Johor Baru.
Johor police chief Comm Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat revealed that the 37-year-old suspect was apprehended at the scene of the crime on October 22 at 12:40 a.m.
“The incident was the result of an ongoing dispute between the two individuals that originated from their time in Yemen,” he stated during a press conference.
Comm Kamarul Zaman added that the victim had died as a result of being stabbed.
The suspect has been placed in custody for 12 days, commencing from October 23 until November 3, 2023, and has been formally charged with Section 302 of the Penal Code on November 1, 2023.
In a separate incident, Comm Kamarul Zaman reported that a 25-year-old Malaysian man was fatally stabbed on October 23 at 3:40 a.m. in a restaurant located in Jalan Sutera, Taman Pelangi.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that jealousy was the motive behind this murder,” he revealed.
Comm Kamarul Zaman further disclosed that two foreign males aged between 26 and 29, as well as a 33-year-old local woman, have been detained in the Johor Baru area.
The two male suspects were charged with Section 302 of the Penal Code on October 31, 2023.
