Yusuf Islam, the British musician formerly known as Cat Stevens, appeared as a guest speaker at the Madani lecture in Seri Perdana, the official residence of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Friday (March 1).
Prime Minister Anwar described Yusuf Islam as impressive and amazing, highlighting his courage, commitment, and tireless effort in promoting a youthful and positive message amidst the world’s calamities and tragedies.
Accompanying Anwar were his wife Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Mohd Na’im Mokhtar, and Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad.
Anwar announced that the Madani Lecture series will feature guest speakers not only from Malaysia but also from overseas.
He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to acquire knowledge and learn about dakwah in the official residence of Malaysia’s Prime Minister.
During his lecture, Yusuf Islam shared his journey to Islam, reflecting on its profound teachings and principles.
He discussed his experiences with prejudice and societal biases, and how he found solace and guidance in the Quran.
Despite facing challenges within the Muslim community, he underscored the timeless relevance of Islamic principles, especially in upholding human rights and environmental stewardship. – Bernama
