JELI: PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang should understand the basic concept of federal and state administrations, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (pic).

The Deputy Prime Minister said this in response to Abdul Hadi’s claim yesterday (Aug 6) that Perikatan Nasional can take over the Federal Government if the pact manages to win the upcoming six state elections.

However, Ahmad Zahid, who is Bagan Datuk MP, said Abdul Hadi’s claim has no basis.

Ahmad Zahid pointed out that the unity government currently has 148 parliamentary seats in the Dewan Rakyat and the six state polls would only make a difference for the respective states.

“How will they (Perikatan) take over Putrajaya? We have 148 seats and even if they win, it will be at the state level which means they have no right to take over (Putrajaya).

“This is not about a referendum. This is about state elections, not general elections, and so it has nothing to do with the Federal Government.

“If a president of a political party could not even fathom such a basic knowledge, I think his qualifications are low in leading a party that is unable to make a basic analysis that is widely known,” he said.

The Barisan Nasional chairman and Umno president said this during a press conference at Plaza IMT-GT Bukit Bunga, Ayer Lanas here today (Aug 7) after launching the Desa Cerdas Kemas programme.

On Sunday (Aug 6), Abdul Hadi claimed that Perikatan’s victory in the Aug 12 elections will pave the way for the coalition to take over the Federal Government.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid has responded to PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang’s claim that Perikatan Nasional could take over the Federal Government if it wins the upcoming six state elections. Zahid, who is also Bagan Datuk MP, stated that Hadi’s assertion has no basis. He highlighted that the unity government currently holds 148 parliamentary seats in the Dewan Rakyat, and the outcome of the six state polls would only affect the respective states rather than the Federal Government. Zahid criticized Hadi’s lack of understanding of the basic concept of federal and state administrations and questioned his qualifications to lead a political party. Speaking at a press conference after launching the Desa Cerdas Kemas programme, Zahid reiterated that the state elections have no bearing on the Federal Government, stating that it is not a referendum but rather a matter of state elections. He emphasized that Perikatan would not be able to take over Putrajaya with only state-level victories. Abdul Hadi had previously claimed that Perikatan’s victory in the upcoming elections would pave the way for the coalition to seize control of the Federal Government.
