The Attorney General (AG) will be responsible for explaining the discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) granted to Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, according to him. Zahid, who is the Deputy Prime Minister, stated that he does not have the right to comment on the matter, but expressed confidence in the new AG and the Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) to provide an explanation if necessary. He made these comments during the women entrepreneurship carnival in Batu Pahat Mara Junior Science College (MRSM) on September 8.
Responding to criticism surrounding the DNAA given to him by the High Court for 47 graft charges related to Yayasan Akalbudi (YAB) funds, Zahid referred to the 11 reasons presented to the court as sufficient justification for its decision. The charges were initially brought against him by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission for alleged misuse of funds tied to his charitable foundation YAB. Justice Datuk Collin Lawrence Sequerah, after considering arguments from both the prosecution and the defense team, made the decision.
Regarding the remarks made by the Kedah Mentri Besar, Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, about “invisible hands” behind the DNAA, Zahid dismissed the existence of such forces and hoped that Sanusi would effectively address the issues faced by the people of Kedah. He also advised against making empty promises during state elections. Sanusi had allegedly urged Pulai and Simpang Jeram voters not to support the unity government due to the involvement of “invisible hands” in the cases of Ahmad Zahid and Kinabatangan MP, Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin.
