SEREMBAN: Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (pic) has urged Umno party members not to undermine the party and cause problems in the lead-up to the state elections.
The Umno president emphasized that while no official reports have been filed with the Disciplinary Board, he wants to prevent any such actions from occurring.
“Until now, we have not received any official reports from the party Disciplinary Board. I am simply reminding all members. If there is a report, we will not even need to initiate an investigation if there is concrete evidence on social media, video, or audio recordings for us to take action,” he told journalists after attending the “Santai Bersama Rakyat” programme on Tuesday (Aug 1).
He added that this is the opportune time for all members to rally and mobilize the electoral machinery, gaining support from both loyal Barisan members and Pakatan Harapan allies, as well as attracting ‘fence sitting’ voters.
In another development, the Deputy Prime Minister advised the opposition not to selectively comment on corruption issues during the state elections.
“I adhere to my own guidelines, which are based on the Electoral Commission Act. Do not use incidents like these to accuse corruption, while giving money and making promises in exchange for votes is not considered bribery. Therefore, we should not apply double standards in this matter,” he stated.
He was responding to the statement made by PAS deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, who called on the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to establish special guidelines for political parties providing aid during elections.
This statement came in response to MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki’s announcement that there was no corruption element in Ahmad Zahid’s speech in Terengganu last Friday. – Bernama
