PETALING JAYA: According to Bukit Aman CID director Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain, the autopsy conducted on six-year-old Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin suggested that he may have struggled with his killer.
Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain stated that the post mortem results indicated that the victim had injuries consistent with strangulation and other injuries believed to be defensive wounds.
He emphasized the need to protect the dignity of the deceased and their family, and therefore refrained from disclosing further details about the case at this time.
“The post mortem has confirmed that the cause of death was not drowning but strangulation,” he informed reporters at the Petaling Jaya police headquarters on Thursday (Dec 7).
Furthermore, he mentioned that the post mortem suggested that the victim likely died within 48 hours of the body being discovered.
“Our investigation will endeavor to retrace the steps of the victim and gather as much information as possible to understand the incident more closely,” he added.
In addition, he revealed that the location where the body was discovered was not frequently visited by many people, indicating that the suspect may have had prior exposure to the area.
“Considering our investigations and interviews with individuals in the vicinity, we believe the place where the body was found is not a regular passage for most people,” he noted, also stating that they could not dismiss the possibility that the suspect is from that area.
He also stated the belief of the police that the victim was killed elsewhere before the body was left at the location where it was eventually found.
He urged anyone who may have information related to the case to contact the Petaling Jaya police headquarters at 03-7966 2222.
