The Zero Waste Community Programme (Kosis) has been successful in 17 People’s Housing Projects (PPR) across the country, with an increase in the number of materials being sent to recycling centers, according to Deputy Local Government Development Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir (pic).
As of August, a total of 15,429 transactions were recorded in these PPRs, compared to 9,769 transactions during the same period last year.
“This data demonstrates that the residents of the 17 PPRs have embraced the implementation of the programme, which benefits them,” he stated.
Based on records, 6,333 units in the 17 PPRs, accounting for 46.6%, have registered with Kosis Centres from 2020 to August this year, Akmal Nasrullah revealed.
Therefore, he emphasized the need to intensify the programme, led by the Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Management Corporation (SWCorp), in order to achieve the target of involving 70% of premises in the 17 PPRs by 2025.
This target is part of the five objectives outlined by SWCorp through the ‘Sifar Sisa Bersamamu Madani’ PPR community initiative.
Akmal Nasrullah further stated that the initiative aims to achieve a recycling rate of 40% by 2025 and to digitize recycling practices in line with the rapid development of information technology. – Bernama
