PETALING JAYA: Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin could possibly be joining Gerakan this time, making her return to Perikatan Nasional, sources have revealed.
According to a source close to the former plantations and commodities minister, “Zuraida and a few other allies will join Gerakan after the state elections.”
The source also mentioned that this is the reason why Zuraida has been seen campaigning for Gerakan chief Datuk Dominic Lau in Bayan Lepas, Penang.
“There are candidates who are associated with her contesting under Gerakan, including the Bukit Gasing seat,” added the source.
Zuraida’s long-time aide D Nallan is Gerakan’s candidate for Bukit Gasing.
In April, Bersatu youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal had announced that Zuraida had applied to rejoin the party, but her application was rejected due to her refusal to step down as a minister when she left the party.
In response, Zuraida denied the claims and demanded that Wan Ahmad Fayhsal retracts his statement.
“This is not true. I only mentioned that I would support Perikatan Nasional in the upcoming state elections as I have always been in favor of a multi-racial party,” said the former Ampang MP.
Prior to this, Zuraida was a member of PKR but joined Bersatu in February 2020 and left in May 2022 after rumors circulated about her joining PBM.
However, in December 2022, Zuraida was dismissed from PBM following a disagreement with party president Datuk Larry Sng.
