A total of 1,184 candidates who took the Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) 2022 examination have achieved a perfect score of cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 4.00, according to Mohd Ekhwan Toriman, the chairman of the Malaysian Examinations Council (MPM). This number represents an increase compared to the 874 candidates who achieved the same result in 2021.
During a press conference held in Kuala Lumpur, Toriman stated that 85.22% of the candidates who scored a CGPA of 4.00 come from the B40 category, which denotes the lower income bracket. Furthermore, the national CGPA for STPM 2022 has also seen an increase, reaching 2.82 compared to 2.79 in the previous year. This is notably the highest national CGPA recorded since the implementation of the STPM exam.
Toriman highlighted the achievements of the STPM 2022 candidates in terms of their CGPA. He mentioned that 9.59% of the candidates received a CGPA of 3.75 and above, while 42.96% achieved a CGPA of 3.00 and above. Additionally, 56.97% attained a CGPA of 2.75 and above, and 89.75% scored a CGPA of 2.00 and above. These figures indicate an improvement compared to the previous year.
In terms of registration, a total of 43,687 candidates registered for the STPM 2022 examination. However, only 41,701 candidates sat for all three semesters’ exams. Out of these, 99.98% (41,694 candidates) were eligible to receive the STPM 2022 certificate, while only 0.02% (seven candidates) did not meet the requirements.
Regarding the 1,986 candidates who did not sit for the examination, Toriman explained that this was due to various reasons such as employment, continuation of studies at the diploma level or other programs, illness, or unfortunate circumstances such as death.
Furthermore, Toriman announced that MPM had selected the top 17 students in different categories to receive an award. These categories include the 11 best overall STPM students, one best student from the B40 category, one best student from the Orang Asli category, and the four best students from the candidates with special educational needs category, namely the blind, short-sighted, autistic, and spastic students. These students will be presented with RM1,000 cash, a plaque, and a certificate in a ceremony expected to be attended by Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek.
