The highly anticipated 2023 Honda WR-V is inching closer to its Malaysian debut, as recent sightings of undisguised units on a transporter have all but confirmed its impending arrival. This news comes on the heels of Honda Malaysia’s announcement of the number of pre-orders received since bookings for the compact SUV opened on June 12.
With an impressive total of 2,500 orders received so far, it’s clear that the WR-V has already garnered significant interest among Malaysian car buyers. Furthermore, Honda Malaysia has also provided a breakdown of the orders, revealing that the model is set to follow the popular City hatchback and sedan lineup in terms of available variants.
The Malaysian market will offer four variants of the WR-V, making it the most comprehensive lineup among ASEAN countries that sell the SUV. These variants include the base S, mid-spec E, high-spec V, and the range-topping RS variant.
When it comes to the breakdown of orders per variant, the range-topping RS variant takes the lead with approximately 45% of the bookings, followed closely by the V variant at 38%. The mid-spec E variant accounts for around 12% of the orders, with the remaining bookings attributed to the base-spec S variant.
All variants of the WR-V in Malaysia will be equipped with the same powertrain as the Indonesian and Thai market versions. This includes a L15ZF 1.5-liter naturally-aspirated DOHC i-VTEC engine that produces 121 PS and 145 Nm of torque, paired with a CVT transmission. This powertrain is also found in the City models and the entry-level variant of the HR-V.
Stay tuned for more information on the WR-V, including detailed specifications of all the variants, as we eagerly await its official launch. In the meantime, you can check out our review of the WR-V in Thailand to get a sneak peek of what to expect.
