Andre Onana wasted no time in getting settled at his new club, Manchester United, as he immediately joined his new teammates for training after completing his £44m move from Inter Milan. The Cameroonian goalkeeper arrived in New Jersey after flying in from Italy and underwent a medical at Carrington before joining the team on their pre-season tour of America. Onana’s arrival comes after Inter Milan reportedly had a contract offer rejected by his predecessor, David de Gea.
Despite the long journey, Onana was eager to start training and took part in a light session at the Pingry School training centre. He worked alongside goalkeeping coaches and was joined by backup goalkeeper Dean Henderson, who is expected to leave Manchester United for Nottingham Forest. Onana, wearing his new United training top, showcased his skills in front of the cameras, making impressive reflex stops and working on his distribution.
His arrival at Manchester United was highly anticipated, as manager Erik ten Hag was keen to have a goalkeeper with strong ball-playing abilities, an area in which De Gea struggled. Onana also demonstrated his aerial dominance as he worked on claiming the ball in the air while facing a makeshift defender. After training, Onana took the time to meet and greet fans, signing autographs and posing for pictures.
Onana could make his club debut in a friendly against Arsenal at the MetLife stadium, as the two teams continue their pre-season preparations. However, his main focus will be on getting accustomed to his new surroundings before Manchester United’s first Premier League match on August 14. With his impressive skills and experience, Onana is expected to make a significant impact for Manchester United in the upcoming season.
