Ajax confirmed that both clubs agreed on a €40 million ($45m) transfer fee, potentially rising to €45m with variables.
“We’re excited that Jurrien has joined us,” said Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta. “He brings quality and versatility to our squad.”
“Jurrien is a young player who has achieved a lot,” added Arteta. “We look forward to welcoming and integrating him into the squad.”
Arteta aimed to strengthen Arsenal’s defense after struggling without Wlliam Saliba last season, finishing behind Manchester City in the Premier League title race.
Kai Havertz has already joined Arsenal from Chelsea in a deal worth up to £67.5m.
Sources say Arsenal have reached an agreement with West Ham United for Declan Rice after City withdrew from the race.
Talking about his move, Timber said: “My brothers were Arsenal fans, and I loved seeing them play. I admired players like Robin van Persie and Thierry Henry.”
Meanwhile, Ajax announced that striker Dusan Tadic will leave the club by his own request.
The 34-year-old Serbian arrived at Ajax in 2018 and achieved three league titles and two Dutch Cups during his time at the club.
“Leaving was a tough decision, but I believe it’s the right time,” said Tadic, who hopes to return to Amsterdam as a coach.
Tadic did not reveal his immediate plans after leaving the club.
