Jung Kook, member of the globally renowned group BTS, has just released his first major solo single, “Seven,” to the delight of fans worldwide. The track comes with an unexpected surprise – a featured appearance by rising female rapper Latto. The lyrics of “Seven” allude to a hot and sizzling encounter between the two artists, but the music itself has a relaxed and laid-back vibe. It’s the kind of song that fits perfectly into the “songs of the summer” category. In an email interview with Variety, Jung Kook expresses his surprise at the possibility of the track becoming a hit, stating that he didn’t have any specific expectations when creating it. Nevertheless, “Seven” is sure to please his dedicated fanbase and capture the attention of new listeners who haven’t yet discovered BTS.

Due to translation issues, Jung Kook conducted the interview with a translator, who sent his answers via email. In the interview, he hints at the possibility of releasing a solo album before the end of 2023, although he remains tight-lipped about the progress and details of the project. For now, fans can witness his solo charisma in action as he performs “Seven” on “Good Morning America” Friday morning.

Despite “Seven” being his official global solo debut, Jung Kook has already achieved incredible success with songs that have surpassed a billion streams on Spotify. He recently re-released “Still With You” and “My You” on additional platforms, which have been well-received by fans. These releases weren’t strategic moves to generate hype for “Seven,” but rather a gesture of gratitude towards his fanbase.

When it came to choosing the strongest song to release as his first global single, Jung Kook reveals that upon hearing “Seven,” he immediately knew it was the one. He dedicated his time to practice and record the track multiple times to ensure its perfection. He hopes that listeners will be able to feel the same emotions he did when he first heard the song.

Andrew Watt and Cirkut, two highly acclaimed producer-writers, played instrumental roles in the creation of “Seven.” During the recording process, Andrew’s passion and direction greatly facilitated the smooth execution of the track. Jung Kook expresses his gratitude towards them for assisting him in his solo debut.

When it came to selecting a featured artist, Latto was recommended by one of the producers due to her exceptional rapping skills. Jung Kook personally enjoys her unique voice, which adds an extra layer of liveliness to the song. Although her rap lyrics may be more overtly sexual, he believes that they suit the overall mood of the track.

The combination of acoustic guitar and rhythmic beats in “Seven” creates a breezy and summery vibe. While he didn’t specifically aim for a “summer single,” Jung Kook hopes that the song will bring joy and evoke the spirit of summertime in anyone who listens to it.

Regarding the release schedule for solo projects within BTS, Jung Kook doesn’t attach much significance to the order of his solo work compared to his fellow members. He takes joy in watching their unique music, stories, and promotions and finds inspiration in their individuality.

While some BTS members explore darker or lesser-known sides of themselves in their solo albums, Jung Kook feels comfortable in the realm of mainstream pop music, as seen in “Seven.” However, as he embarks on his official solo debut, he aims to showcase a more mature and grown version of himself.

Jung Kook appreciates the high expectations placed on “Seven” and hopes that it becomes a big hit. He didn’t have any specific goals in mind when creating the song, but with the possibility of its success, he would be overjoyed.

Fans of BTS are known for their deep investment in the relationships within the band. Jung Kook acknowledges the importance of not only the entire group dynamic but also the individual friendships between members. He values the chemistry they possess, which resonates with fans worldwide.

As for future projects, Jung Kook is diligently working on releasing a solo album this year. Although he remains tight-lipped about the details, fans can anticipate greatness.

Performing in the “GMA” summer concert series just hours after the release of “Seven,” Jung Kook experiences a different mindset as a solo artist. While he may miss the presence of his fellow members on stage, he focuses on putting his own energy and filling up the stage for his solo performances.

Finally, Jung Kook reflects on the much-needed rest that the group has received recently. Although he cherishes the time off, he also feels a sense of completeness and happiness when he has the support of his fans or BTS by his side.
