KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysian singer Masya Masyitah has sparked a debate among the public with her recent photos shared on social media.
The 23-year-old, known for usually wearing a tudung, posted several pictures of herself without one on Sunday.
Taking inspiration from the movie Barbie, she appeared in the photos dressed in a pink outfit, sporting matching pink hair and make-up, while posing next to a pink car.
Masya, who has faced criticism in the past, captioned one of the photos in English, saying, “Your mind has to be stronger than your feelings.”
Some individuals condemned her for not wearing a tudung and threatened to unfollow her on Instagram, while others praised her appearance.
According to Malaysian media reports, her Instagram following increased from 775,000 on Sunday to 796,000 by Monday afternoon.
Masya rose to fame by winning the second season of the Malaysian singing contest Ceria Popstar in 2014. She is widely recognized for her song Halimunan (2018) and for covering Mandarin songs on her YouTube channel.
In July, Masya faced criticism after sharing photos of herself playing badminton wearing a hoodie that exposed her neck.
Similarly, her June photos in a Japanese-style school uniform received backlash as her stockings did not fully cover her thighs.
