Daniel Ricciardo Returns to F1 with AlphaTauri, Replaces Nyck de Vries
Craig Slater provides the latest news on Daniel Ricciardo’s comeback to an F1 race seat. The Australian driver will replace Nyck de Vries at AlphaTauri for the rest of the season.
Ricciardo, who has been serving as the third driver for Red Bull, has been loaned out to their junior team. Despite his previous statements about wanting to drive for a team competing at the front, Ricciardo has decided to join AlphaTauri, currently last in the constructors’ standings.
AlphaTauri team principal Franz Tost expressed his delight at Ricciardo’s return, citing his driving skills and past success in Formula 1. Ricciardo, an eight-time Grand Prix winner, will make his comeback at the Hungarian Grand Prix.
Meanwhile, De Vries’ rookie season comes to an early end as he sits last in the drivers’ standings and without a point. Despite his impressive performance as a reserve driver for Mercedes last year, De Vries has struggled to match his teammate Yuki Tsunoda, and AlphaTauri has decided to part ways with him.
Ricciardo’s return to racing comes after he impressed during a recent tire test with Red Bull at Silverstone. Red Bull team principal Christian Horner praised Ricciardo’s competitive times during the test and expressed excitement about his future with AlphaTauri.
Ricciardo, who previously drove for McLaren and Renault, had a challenging season last year and stated that he needed some time away from the sport. However, he seems to have regained his form and is eager to be back on track with the Red Bull family.
