Scuderia AlphaTauri has made the decision to part ways with Nyck de Vries after a challenging rookie season in Formula 1. According to De Telegraaf, the team will replace him with experienced F1 driver Daniel Ricciardo, who is currently serving as the reserve driver for Red Bull Racing. The move comes after De Vries impressed during his one-off performance at the 2022 Italian Grand Prix, where he substituted for Alexander Albon. However, his performance has been lackluster this season compared to his teammate Yuki Tsnoda. With AlphaTauri’s future uncertain, this decision was necessary for both the team and Red Bull. Speculation about Ricciardo’s return to the senior team intensified when he participated in a recent tire test with Red Bull Racing. Ricciardo, a former McLaren driver, chose to take a sabbatical from racing and has now opted to join AlphaTauri. His first race with the team will be at the Hungarian Grand Prix in two weeks.
