Actor Hugh Jackman has reassured fans that his return as Wolverine in the highly anticipated “Deadpool 3” will not disrupt the storyline of “Logan,” the 2017 film that marked the end of Wolverine’s journey by killing off the character. A first look at “Deadpool 3” shared on Instagram by Jackman and co-star Ryan Reynolds reveals Wolverine wearing his classic yellow-and-blue costume from the comic books. This version of Wolverine has never been seen on the big screen before.
“Deadpool 3” is currently in production, with Shawn Levy directing. Levy previously worked with Reynolds on “Free Guy” and the Netflix film “The Adam Project.” While not much is known about the plot of “Deadpool 3,” it is evident that the film will involve the multiverse as Deadpool enters the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the first time following a series of solo movies produced under Fox.
In addition to Jackman and Reynolds, “Deadpool 3” will feature returning cast members Morena Baccarin and Brianna Hildebrand, as well as newcomers Emma Corrin and Matthew Macfadyen. It has been confirmed that Jennifer Garner will reprise her role as Elektra, a character she portrayed in Ben Affleck’s 2003 film “Daredevil” and her own 2005 spinoff movie, after a nearly 20-year absence.
In an interview with Collider last year, director Shawn Levy emphasized the importance of maintaining the R-rated nature of the franchise in “Deadpool 3.” Despite the film being part of the Disney-owned Marvel Cinematic Universe, Levy and writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have reassured fans that the R-rated humor and language will not be diluted. They expressed their gratitude for Disney’s support and vowed to deliver a true-to-form Deadpool experience.
“Deadpool 3” is scheduled to be released in theaters on May 3, 2024.
